Gray Justice

Gray Justice tells the story of Tom Gray, an ex-soldier whose world is turned upside-down when his young son is killed by a car thief. Several months later his wife, overcome with grief, takes her own life. On the day of her funeral he discovers that his son's killer, Stuart Boyle, has been released from custody, having served half of his fifteen-month sentence on remand. His thoughts turn to revenge, but nothing as simple as a beating. Instead, he devises a plan that will not only give Boyle the punishment he deserves but also ensure that the courts come down harder on career criminals. He does this by kidnapping five repeat offenders and parading them on the internet. After informing the news agencies about his plan, he lets the people of Britain decide on the fate of the five hostages: live or die. After the first hostage has been dealt with, Gray releases details of his Justice bill, a series of recommendations for dealing with offenders. Ideas include conscription and corporal punishment, and he again lets the public vote on whether or not they want to see this introduced. The authorities quickly discover his location, but his planning ensures that they are powerless to move against him because the death of Tom Gray would lead to the death of thousands. Secure in his fortress, Gray believes he has thought of everything, but one man sees the situation from an entirely different perspective and travels four thousand miles to exploit a huge flaw in his plan.
