68-time Ghanaian soccer international Yaw Preko was discovered by Belgian side RSC Anderlecht in the early 1990s, making his league debut for Anderlecht's first team in February 1993 aged 19. At age 17, he was a part of the Ghanaian under 17 side that won the World Cup under 17. In 1993 and 1994, under Dutch coach Johan Boskamp the young Preko would often form a duo with Belgian Luc Nilis or Dutchman John Bosman in the center of attack. Preko, who moved from Accra based Hearts of Oak in 1992, made 118 appearances for the Brussels based club, scoring 32 goals. Afterwards, Preko played for Turkish teams Gaziantepspor and Fenerbahce. He retired as a player in 2008, with the Chinese club Hoang Anh Gia Lai FC at the age of 34.
