Jacob Bates is an actor, and YouTube video creator who uploads content on his popular historical channel "History Boy." The channel has now seen over four million viewers and hosts 19,000 dedicated subscribers. Bates served on the American Battlefield Trust Youth Leadership Team, meeting with Senators and Congressmen to further the American Battlefield Protection Program and bring attention to historical preservation in the United States. Bates has already created a name for himself in the field of American History, with his work on the channel- posting historical music videos and narrated documentaries. This is paired with his work at the Trust, and in Authentic Living History. Bates models for historical artist Don Troiani, and has been featured in multiple paintings public, and forthcoming. Bates has been featured in "I Heard the Bells." (2022) where he also provided notes to the set crew on historical authenticity. Bates has appeared on TV, including one on one interviews, and in "Holiday For Heroes" (2019) by Hallmark. Jacob Bates grew up in the seaside village of Stonington Connecticut, surrounded by beautiful 19th century buildings and steeped in a sense of community and historical heritage. His parents are Scott, and Lisa Bates. Scott was the youngest Secretary of State in American history, serving as the Secretary of the Commonwealth of Virginia, and meeting his wife while overseas on democracy building-work. Scott has been on the ground in every war zone where American troops have fought in this generation. He has worked with elected leaders and activists alike to build democratic institutions and governance structures in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kosovo, Bosnia, Haiti and the Persian Gulf. has gone on to be the Deputy Secretary of the State of Connecticut, and works with NDI (The National Democratic Institute.) Lisa Tepper Bates served as a U.S. diplomat from 1992 to 2006. She worked in the White House, as a Special Assistant for Europe to the Undersecretary of State and as Director for Southeastern Europe at the White House National Security Council. Jacob Bates attends W.M.I - The Williams Memorial Institute or Williams School, where he is a Junior in High School. He began to upload historical content to his YouTube channel in 2017, and has built a library of content and community of supportive historians and Reenactors from scratch. He has collaborated with the biggest historical YouTubers including Brandon Fisichella, Atun-Shei Films, and with the Today Show featured Addressing Gettysburg Podcast. Bates has also worked with the 2nd South Carolina Stringband, and interviewed Thomas F. Wilson of Back to the Future fame. Bates writes, shoots, directs, and edits, all of his own content. He continues to forge new connections and post more engaging historical video productions.
