Mauricio Hidalgo, who recently appeared in a recurring role on AMC's Dispatches from Elsewhere with Sally Field and Jason Segal, was born in Bay Shore, New York to Nena Chavez, a homemaker and Edison Hidalgo, a CNC machinist. He had a happy childhood, growing up with his siblings in the Bay Shore suburb. At the age of 14 his family moved to the neighboring town of Brentwood where Mauricio attended Brentwood Ross High School. There he became interested in singing, acting and performing, joining the school's choir and musical. After high school graduation, he spent the summer studying abroad at the ITV Institute in Guayaquil, Ecuador, where he majored in acting and theatre arts. While in Ecuador, Mauricio toured with a professional regional theatre company and worked in commercials, television and independent films. Mauricio returned to New York in 2007. Due to the state of the economy at that time, he put aside his artistic pursuits and jumped into the workforce to help his family. He worked his way up the corporate ladder achieving a managerial position in NYC. In 2016 he went back to school and earned a degree in Business Administration. During his final semester there he came across a flyer for an open call for the school's production of Bat Boy the Musical. He "gave it a shot" and auditioned, landing the role of Rick Taylor. This experience rekindled Mauricio's acting bug. He went on to be cast in several community theater productions on Long Island at the Bare Bones Theater Company and South Shore Theatre Experience and worked on regional commercials and short films. These successes led Mauricio to take a leap of faith: he quit his full-time job and pursued a career in acting. While working security part time at a theatre, he struck up a conversation with a teacher from the SAG Institute who recommended him to a talent management agency where he auditioned and was signed. He moved to NYC, attended the prestigious Atlantic Theater Company Acting School, and has been busy auditioning and working steadily.
