Alexandru Surdu is the last Romanian philosopher who elaborated a categorical philosophical system in a classical way. He was born on 24th of February 1938 in Brasov. After graduation, he was a researcher at The Center of Logics - Romanian Academy. He was a professor at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Bucharest during 1992-2007, where he taught Modern and Contemporary Philosophy. In 1993, he became a full member of the Romanian Academy and president of the Department of Philosophy, Theology, Psychology and Pedagogy of the Romanian Academy. Since 1997, he has been the director of the "Constantin Radulescu-Motru" Institute of Philosophy and Psychology of the Romanian Academy. He wrote over 700 studies and articles in different cultural and philosophical fields.
