In 2019, he was awarded a prestigious scholarship from the Austrian Federal Ministry for the Arts and since 2020, he has been pursuing a master's degree in Visual Communication at the Art University in Kassel. Additionally, he has directed two short films, both shot in Somalia. "Life on the Horn" (2020) received a special mention at the Locarno Film Festival and was screened at numerous festivals, including the Uppsala International Short Film Festival (where it won the Uppsala Award in Memory of Ingmar Bergman) and the Cairo International Film Festival. His latest short film, "Will My Parents Come and See Me" (2022), premiered at the Berlinale Shorts and was nominated for the European Film Awards in the short film category. In the same year, Mo Harawe was selected for Berlinale Talents to develop his debut feature film, "The Village Next to Paradise," which was ultimately included in the Un Certain Regard section at the 77th Cannes Film Festival.
