Clark's family moved from Connecticut to Chicago when he was a very young child. After graduating from Northeastern Illinois University, he became a role play actor for the Chicago Police Department's CIT (Crisis Intervention Team) training. As a role play actor he acts as if he is in an acute mental health crisis, and the police officers use their new trained skills to de-escalate the actor, and not use command and Control. The CPD was the first Police Department in the world to use individuals like Clark living with a mental illness as role play actors. There is a CIT International convention each year in a different city. The 2016 convention was in Chicago, and Clark won the consumer of the year. He has been a CIT role play actor for over 15 years.
