Claudine Anderson (neé Stephen-Smith) is Co-Artistic Director of Mercury's Wings Theatre Company in Australia, with her husband, James Anderson. She studied classical ballet, achieving the Royal Academy of Dance Solo Seal Award, then worked in a bank to earn enough money for a one-way ticket to Europe at 18 years. From 1990-99, she worked at Musiktheater im Revier, L'Opèra de Metz, Oldenburgishe Staatstheater, and Tanztheater Regenbogen. She performed lead roles in classical ballet, contemporary dance and musical theatre (West Side Story - Anita, and Buddy Holly - Peggy-Sue and vocals). Following her performance career, she studied Shakespeare at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, followed by Post-Graduate study at Australia's National Institute of Dramatic Art (Movement Studies) as one of only two students selected. Since 2004, she has directed over 17 independent theatre productions (Endgame - "an assurance impossible to fault" Peter Halstead BBC Plays and Players Endgame, "Art" - "inspired" "quirky" "refreshing" *Australian stage) ranging from Shakespeare to Beckett, to contemporary and devised work.
