Deborah Syna

Intense focus on personal identity and the trans-formative power of physical, psychic, and emotional upheaval, drives the stories I write and characters I create. Exploring rich, dynamic, settings as characters, with unusual, or rarely seen environments, either urban or wild, is a particular feature of my work. A clinical neurologist by profession, I enjoy medical realism on the page with its natural drama, pain and imperfection. Twice, an Austin Film Festival second rounder, a Nicholl's top 18%, and a Vancouver Women in Film Festival Finalist and official selection, I have been humbled and awed by the creatives in the screenwriting community I have joined, and continue to study, conference and learn, so that my stories will reach an audience.
