SONG Wenting is a Chinese documentary director, screenwriter and acting coach. She was born and raised in Hunan Province, China. Growing up in a relatively liberal family, she cultivated a strong interest in writing and filming, and eventually studied film production in college. During college time, she served as the assistant director in the short film Getting Old without Children (2016), which won the "Best Documentary Film" in the "17th College Student Original Film Competition" of the "23rd Beijing College Student Film Festival". She furthered her education on acting and film making at the Shih Hsin University in Taiwan and at the Central Academy of Drama in Beijing. In the early stage of her career, she primarily focused on writing movie reviews and coaching young actors, which helped her accumulate certain influence in the film industry. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she was deeply touched and inspired by the awakening stories all around the society and decided to start making her own films. In 2020, She wrote and directed her debut independent short film See You (2020) (the literal translation of the Chinese name is "Quarantine".) and won the "Best Debut Film Maker" and the "Best Film on Women" awards in Cosmo International Film Festival (May 2020). In 2021, her short film Nocturne Op.9 No.3 (2021) won the "Best Production Design" at the London Film & TV Awards (May 2021), and was selected as Finalist in the Tokyo International Short Film Festival (June 2021), the Vancouver Independent Film Festival (June 2021), and the Seoul International Short Film Festival (July 2021). Her short film Invades (2021) was selected as Finalist in the Golden Short Film Festival in September, 2021. In November 2021, Wenting started working on a documentary on the philosophical culture of Taoism in China. SONG Wenting is also an active content creator on several Chinese internet platforms, including WeChat, Weibo, Bilibili, Zhihu and XiaoyuzhouFM, etc., producing articles, videos and podcasts on TV/movie related topics and more.
