José Irizarry was born in the state of Michigan to Puerto Rican parents and was raised on the island of Puerto Rico until the age of 10 when his family moved back to Michigan. In 2018, José started the Film & Media Production major in The Sidney Poitier New American Film School at Arizona State University and graduated on Dec 13, 2021. On Dec 11, 2021, his short film Big Hero premiered in the ASU Senior Showcase. Big Hero is the culmination of his studies at ASU, where he learned the art of filmmaking. As a director, José sees the art of storytelling as a way to touch our lives in such a way that it allows us to dream, hope, and enter into new worlds, all through our imagination. Stories have shaped our world for the better or for the worse, and José wants to use the power of storytelling to change our world for the better, one story at a time!
