Jamila Pomeroy is an internationally-published, award-winning writer; director, producer, actor and model based in Vancouver, Canada. Jamila Pomeroy was born in Toronto and raised in New Westminster, before moving to Vancouver as a teen. She is of Kenyan, Norwegian and some Irish and Mi'kmaq, ancestry. She took an early interest in writing and the arts; began dance and theatre when she was Five, and won the Canadian Black Achievement Award for creative writing at twelve. Though she's always loved writing, when a high school teacher told her that she'd never have a career as a writer, Jamila went on to study culinary arts, food anthropology and business at the Arts Institute of Vancouver. After graduating, her writing quickly gained traction online, which resulted in her being scouted by multiple outlets such as BeatRoute and BBC. Today, she has created factual and fiction work in accordance with networks and publications like CBC, BBC, BBC Storyworks, Red Bull Media, Hypebae & Hypebeast, Network Entertainment, Quibi, Showtime, Telus, Meta4films, Montecristo Magazine, Nuvo, Vitruvi and many more. Her writing across all mediums is known to be impact-driven, with immersive worlds that unpack contemporary social issues. Specifically, her work often champions historically underrepresented people and narratives, while generating both accessible and intellectually-charged storylines.
