Kamal Madbooly was born in Alexandria, Egypt on November 7, 1988. He is the youngest child and only son to Kamal Madbooly Sr., an agricultural engineer, and Nabeela Sayed, a math teacher and school principal. Kamal grew up primarily in Egypt with his two older sisters, but bounced between Egypt and Saudi Arabia due to his parents' work. Film fascinated Kamal from an early age; he began watching and connecting to movies before he even learned to speak. Despite his interest, there were few local acting opportunities. His days were filled playing soccer and his summers spent visiting with cousins in the countryside. After completing high school, Kamal attended October 6 University. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English in 2011. He continued his education at the American University in Cairo, where he received a graduate diploma in interpreting. In 2014, he earned a Master of Arts in Literature from Cairo University. Kamal is fluent in Arabic and English; he is also a professional interpreter/linguist. It was in college that Kamal was able to fulfill his passion for drama. After first taking the stage as Shylock in Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice, he formed a theater group with his classmates to perform classic and contemporary plays. Kamal moved to Los Angeles in 2018 to pursue a career in the film industry. There, he was well-trained by top acting coaches. Audiences have seen him perform in short films and independent features.
