Phoebe the Cat

Phoebe was adopted, with her brother Jacques, from a New York City shelter when she was a kitten in early 2003, by Marie Story. On May 13, 2007, Marie gave Phoebe (who was then named Diana) to Saima Huq, whose elderly pet rabbit George had been put to sleep that April, after suffering a stroke. Phoebe and Saima, along with fellow cats Curtis and then Pablo, lived in Astoria, Queens, the Upper West Side, and Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn together, before moving back to Saima's childhood home in Ewing, NJ. In November 2020, Saima and Phoebe moved to their last home together, in downtown New Haven. In January 2021, Phoebe was diagnosed with a galloping heart rhythm which, with her advanced age, led to cardiac failure, necessitating her being put to sleep. She went peacefully.
