"Having studied economics at Loughborough University, Matthew was an ICAEW prize winner and joined Price Waterhouse on becoming a qualified ACA. Matthew worked for Price Waterhouse in Eastern Europe and Southern Africa working on the privatisation of a number of parastatal institutions in Eastern Europe and on a variety of government advisory projects in Africa, which included the implementation of reporting structures for the state secondary education system. On leaving Price Waterhouse in 1998, Matthew became the finance director for the ENIC Group of companies, a fully listed company which included a sports division, which held interests in six European football clubs, an entertainments division, which included Warner Bros Studio stores in the UK, and a media division, which included investments in various listed media ventures. In 2001 the ENIC Group acquired Tottenham Hotspur plc and Matthew became the operations and finance director of the club whilst also acting as finance director for the ENIC Group of companies, which includes an extensive property portfolio. Matthew is also a trustee of the club's charitable organisation, the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation."
