Fábio was born on July 9, 1990 in Petrópolis, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil as Fábio Pereira da Silva. Fábio and his twin brother Rafael are professional footballers. He spent his youth career at Brazilian club Fluminense, who he joined when he was 11 years old, along with his brother. He then signed for English club Manchester United and joined them in January 2008, again along with his brother, and stayed there for the next five years, although he spent a year on loan at English club Queens Park Rangers in the 2012/13 season. He then joined for Welsh club Cardiff City in January 2014, and stayed there for almost three years. He then joined English club Middlesbrough in August 2016, and spent the next two years there. He then joined French club Nantes in July 2018.
