Ken Martin was born in Clayton-le-Moors in the late 1930s, and moved to Merseyside in 1956 to study architecture at the University of Liverpool. He became an artist, lecturer and architect, and spent over sixty years of his life in the city. In 2017 he left Liverpool to travel, and spend more time at his home in the Lake District. Occasionally appearing on television, he presented as himself in 1983's A Sense of Place (1983), and in 1987 appeared in character to teach children about building and building materials in Professor Lobster (1987).
