Erik grew up in rural and small-town North Dakota and Norway. With his genealogy extending back to 1358, he has the traditional blond-blue Scandinavian look from being full-blooded Norwegian and Swedish. He worked for several years at his relatives' mountaintop ski lodge in Hadeland, Norway, raising and training Norwegian elkhounds & horses, practicing professional massage and serving as a member of the Ski Patrol Rescue Reserve. Backpacking around Western Europe for 4½ years and living in Paris & Rome made him a committed big-city boy. Prior to earning a J.D. from the University of North Dakota, Erik was a paramedic, mortician and coroner's investigator. He was one of the first persons with a U.S. law degree to study Admiralty & Maritime Law at the Nordisk Institutt for Sjørett in Oslo, Norway. He has worked for numerous years in the bio-pharma industry, and as of 2021 helps pharmaceutical companies help get new psychiatric medications approved by the FDA.
