He studied singing with Candace Smith in Bologna, Italy, and with Kurt Widmer and René Jacobs at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Switzerland, then performing all over the world both as a soloist and with the main Renaissance and Baroque music ensembles (Clemencic Consort, Huelgas Ensemble, La Colombina, Concerto Italiano a.o.). In 1996 he founded with Rossana Bertini La Venexiana, a madrigal group that later performed also sacred music and melodramas of the Italian seventeenth century. During his career, he recorded 80 CDs for such labels as Deutsche Harmonia Mundi, Glossa, Opus 111, Accent, Sony Classical. He was considered one of the most important countertenors of his generation.
