Michael Y. Kim was born in Texas, the son of Korean immigrants. His father was from Seoul and his mother from Sacheon. His first forays into acting came in elementary and middle school including a stellar performance of the role of gambler, Harry the Horse, in Guys & Dolls. That transformative experience led Michael to approach his older brother to start pooling their money together to buy a movie to watch every week. TV productions that had a big impact on Michael include One Tree Hill and The Office. Michael enjoys a variety of different genre shows/movies including films: Oldboy (Oldeuboi), Us, The Prestige, The Departed, Friend (Chingoo), and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind; and TV series: Power, Breaking Bad, Atlanta, and Black Mirror. Most recently, Michael has been mentored by actor/comedian Mo Amer during an exciting 3 episode guest star role in his new Netflix comedy series, executive produced by Ramy Youssef, premiering in 2022.
