Kyle Selby is a Los Angeles-based screenwriter born and raised in Riverside, California. In college, Kyle studied journalism, eventually landing him a full-time position as a staff writer at The Valley Chronicle newspaper in Hemet, California. He worked there for several years covering everything from puppy adoptions to the local homicide beat. In addition to staff writing, Kyle accepted many other editorial responsibilities at the publication including assistant editor, photographer, videographer, and even political cartoonist. In 2019, he moved to Los Angeles to enroll in Columbia College Hollywood's Screenwriting program. He is currently working on his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Cinema. In 2020, Kyle debuted his first children's book, "Christmas Isn't the Same Without You"; a story about grieving loved ones during the holidays, inspired by the passing of his dog. In 2022, Kyle partnered with filmmaker Fiorella Vescovi Garcia to develop "Mal de Amores," an LGBTQ short film that centers around codependency and friendship, designed as a proof-of-concept for a TV drama/comedy series. The film is currently in post-production. Kyle is Ecuadorian American and goes out of his way to develop projects that shine a light on authentic (lead) Latinx characters and experiences. He believes that filmmakers should not only represent themselves in their work but reflect the audience as well.
