Vladimir Lert was born on June 12, 1979, in Riga, Latvia. In the year 1997, he immigrated to the United States with his parents and younger sister. Lert graduated film program at Brooks Institute in Santa Barbara, California. After his film studies, Lert went to Kyiv, Ukraine, where he filmed several small budget films and participated in the Kyiv Film Festival. In 2017 Lert released "Tevye's Daughters." The film based on Sholem Aleichem's characters and a play by Grigori Gorin. In 2018, "Tevye's Daughters" was screened at for a Golden Globe in the foreign-language film category. In 2019, the film won the Rhode Island International Film Festival 2019 - Best Feature Film, first prize.
