Nick Kolyohin (born November 7, 1983) is an Israeli journalist. Since 2018 he is correspondent for Xinhua News Agency. Until the beginning of 2016, he was the environment, science, and technology correspondent for Channel 10 (Israeli TV channel), as well as deputy editor of the main news edition of Channel 10 (Israeli TV channel). Biography Kolyohin was born in 1983 in Moscow, Russia. In 1992, Nick and his family immigrated to Israel. He speaks fluent Russian and Hebrew. Kolyohin served in an elite field intelligence combat unit of the Israel Defense Forces , where he was trained as a combat soldier and spent his military service as a fighter, counter-terrorism instructor, Krav Maga instructor, and shooting instructor. He has appeared in small roles in films, TV series and commercials since he was a teenager. After his discharge in 2006, Kolyohin enrolled for a bachelor's degree at the Department of Film at Tel Aviv University, as well as for journalism studies at the "Title" School of Journalism. After completing his first year he joined the media world , first on Channel 2 (Israeli TV channel) and then Channel 10 (Israeli TV channel). In 2008-2010 Kolyohin worked for Channel 2 (Israeli TV channel) in various content and editorial positions, as well as a field reporter for the show "People of the Day." Nick also served as the sports reporter for One (website) a leading sports website in Israel, and for a short time as a researcher for the Saturday news edition of Channel 10 (Israeli TV channel) News. In 2010-2011 Kolyohin was a television reporter for Hot (Israel) news of the Central Region, broadcasted on Hot 3. In 2011-2012 Kolyohin worked at Prime Minister's Office (Israel) in the position of the spokesman for the Deputy Minister and the department responsible for the welfare of Holocaust survivors and senior citizens, under the charge of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. In 2012 Nick returned to Channel 10 (Israeli TV channel) for the position of field reporter, first at the political desk, and then the criminal desk. Kolyohin became a specialist in investigative journalism. Using false identities, he infiltrated various establishments that typically barred the media. By using concealed recording equipment he documented and brought to broadcast exclusive video footage from these investigations. In 2014, Kolyohin started to work as Deputy Editor of the main news edition of Channel 10 (Israeli TV channel), and in early 2015 he became the channel's correspondent for science, technology, and environmental issues. In addition to a career in the media world, Kolyohin studied acting for three years, one year was at the Acting Studio named after Nissan Nativ. In 2018, he started his work as a correspondent in Israel for Xinhua News Agency. Publications and journalistic achievements During his career as the reporter on Channel 10 (Israeli TV channel), Kolyohin obtained an exclusive interview with the hostage rescued from the Bank Hapoalim murder spree in Beersheba. Among his other investigations and stories are documentation of the abusive transportation of calves for slaughter from Europe to Israel; exposing the payment for votes in the Yisrael Beiteinu party; research about the industry of lies in polling and survey companies; documented cases of racism among the fans of Beitar Jerusalem; documentation of the fight between the Chief of the Israel Security Agency Shin Bet and teenagers; exposure of hazardous radiation at a school; research about illegal private midwife services provided in hospitals; exposure of the mortgage scams in banks aimed towards new immigrants; documentation of teenagers getting drunk after illegally purchasing alcohol; a series of reports on unsolved murders; an interview with the Head of NASA, Charles Bolden. In March of 2014, Kolyohin flew alone with hidden recording equipment to Istanbul, Turkey. Under a false identity, he penetrated the hospital in which an international organ trafficking network was operating. The network lured 18-year-old girls from Israel to come to Turkey, in order to harvest their organs for thousands of dollars. Kolyohin documented the Mafioso in the hospital, and at one point, when the members of the organ trafficking network caught onto him and began to threaten he was forced to flee, as he rescued the material recorded with a hidden camera. The Ministry of Defense (Israel) was constantly on the phone line with Kolyohin, and the Turkish security forces were also updated about the situation. Finally, he took off back to Israel with the footage he obtained, which was then broadcasted on the main edition of Channel 10 (Israeli TV channel) news. Kolyohin was interviewed on various programs about his exclusive reportage about organ trafficking in Turkey, following which Interpol arrested the organ traders. They are in prison today. In November of 2014, Kolyohin had infiltrated for the third time in two years, the radical football supporters' group La Familia (Beitar supporters' group), under the identity of one of the fans. During a bus ride to a game, one of the fans recognized Kolyohin, despite the fact that he was wearing the gear of Beitar Jerusalem F.C. fans. The fans on the bus attacked Kolyohin and threatened to lynch him if he would not let them search him and see whether he recorded them. Kolyohin escaped from the bus that had about 60 members of La Familia group on board and managed to extract the memory card that held the documentation of the bus ride that was broadcasted on the main edition of Channel 10 news. The footage demonstrated La Familia members praising Yigal Amir - the murderer of the late Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, and in addition bullying everybody around them, especially Arabs. In July of 2015, stories by Nick Kolyohin were broadcasted in the main edition of Channel 10 (Israeli TV channel) news throughout an entire week. These stories presented exclusive documentation he brought from the famous Israeli Soglowek chicken slaughterhouse in the town of Shlomi, Israel. In the footage, Soglowek employees cruelly mistreated the chickens intended for slaughter. Following the investigation, the [[Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (Israel)[[ temporarily closed the slaughterhouse and the police arrested two of its workers. The ministry had established a national control and supervision center, which installed cameras monitoring all slaughterhouses and abattoirs in Israel and is staffed by volunteers together with professional workers who supervise 24/7 to prevent repeat incidents. Since 2018 the stories he makes for Xinhua News Agency and CNC World are published in big news outlets around the world. Kolyohin writes features and reports on TV mainly about the environment, science, and technology.
