Peterson Sylvert (better known as Petey Pete) was born in Haiti on November 13, 1985, and is the oldest child out of four siblings. At the tender age of five his mom and dad sent him to the United States of America to have a better life and to be successful. He lived with many families until he was soon adopted to a great family and resided in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. There he found his love for basketball, stories and watching movies. In 2004 he graduated from Pompano Beach High school, and two years later Sylvert decided to pursue his education at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University studying Broadcast/Journalism. Like any freshman in college trying to find out whom they are, Sylvert always had a burning desire to be a filmmaker since youth. His freshman year on campus he volunteered with FAMU TV 20, the university's local television station, functioning as a videographer and audio technician. Sylvert went above and beyond many students as far as volunteering on weekends and staying extra hours at the studio, while working a part-time job at a local apartment complex as well. In 2008 Sylvert took his first major step by producing and hosting his very own show, "The Access," his junior year in college. The entertainment show geared towards music and aired locally on FAMU TV 20, there after Sylvert was nicknamed "Petey Pete." While in the mean time he built a close relationship with FAMU TV 20 staff member Jeff Walker who helped mentor and guide him along the way. Sylvert was determined to produce a movie, so he began networking at Florida State University where they had a film program, and participated in various short films produced by students. He also started a company named Petey Pete Films, and made promos for organizations on campus, music videos, promoted parties, and produced promos. Outside of school Sylvert landed his first job in the broadcast field industry at a local television station as a master control operator, working night shifts. He also stayed involved on campus functioning as the video editor for FAMU's, "Famcast," the university's online web cast. In November of 2009 Sylvert started working towards his dreams. He is the director and writer of his first short film, "Scratch Hustlers," produced by Jeff Walker. The film entails one disc jockey that is pressured to battle against another disc jockey. The moral to the film is being able to find character within yourself and testing your strengths in difficult situations. Since that first film Sylvert has did 2 award winning shorts, and has enrolled film school at Full Sail University and is in process of writing and directing his first feature length film. Sylvert's favorite quote is, "You miss 100 percent of the shot you don't take."
