Marcelo Borja is an established filmmaker in his own right. Marcelo has always dreamed of film but walked a slightly unconventional path in his cinematic journey. Marcelo Borja was born in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil in 1974. He grew up surrounded by super 8mm cameras, VHS cameras, photo cameras and any other kind of equipment that could create images (even x-rays machines). His father, Luiz Arthur Ferreira, was the one to blame. Despite of being a doctor he always loved film and photography and he was always registering the family moments. This created a huge impact in Marcelo's personality. During high school, Marcelo was always doing short films with friends and family. By the end of the high school years, Marcelo had to decide which way he was going to follow as a career. By a mystery bigger than the beginning of the universe, Marcelo decided to study engineering. During this time Marcelo kept doing his personal projects with his brother Gustavo Borja. Marcelo graduated as an engineer and started work in FIAT (the biggest automotive company of Brazil) where he had a long and successful career. After several successful years in the industry Marcelo could no longer deny his true passion. He left everything behind to study film. Marcelo moved to New York and started studying to be a filmmaker at New York Film Academy doing the "One Year Film Making Program". Soon, he turned his attention to cinematography. After finishing his first Filmmaking semester, he started the "One Year Cinematography Program". He graduated as a cinematographer on June, 2011. As a cinematographer Marcelo became known among his peers for his excellent style of lighting and creative story telling techniques. Apart from numerous great cinematography projects, Marcelo's greatest achievement to date is the success of his short film, "I Fix Everything" which he wrote, produced and co-direct with his friend Toni Comas. The short won the best prizes (Best Director, Best Script, Best Child Actor and Best Film) of the 100 hour Film Racing. The short is currently touring on the festival circuit and has being selected on the Arizona International Film Festival, The Canadian Non-Violence Film Festival and others. Marcelo Borja lives in New York today, where he divides his time working as a teacher assistant at the New York Film Academy, shooting short films and web videos as a cinematographer and producing, writing and directing his own projects. He is currently developing his own feature film based on his short "I Fix Everything".
