Alexandra (Lexi) Schoenberger was born in New London, Connecticut, the only child of a doctor father and an artist mother. Her father, a Jewish surgeon of Russian descent, raised her as a single parent. She grew up along the Connecticut shoreline where her father still practices medicine. From an early age Lexi showed an inclination towards the limelight and performing. She attended Waterford High School, where she was active in the arts, particularly photography and video production. Extremely animated and lively, her vivacious attitude often times landed her in front of the camera rather than behind it. This only added to her natural inclination to perform. She attended the University of Tampa to study clinical psychology in 2007 and two years later transferred to the University of Connecticut where she majored in communications. She met director Stephen Stifano at the University of Connecticut and landed a small role in Stephen Stifano's film Belief (2011) as Carole. The experience of being on set was so enthralling for her she was soon in front of the camera again. Her second appearance on camera was as an uncredited zombie in Steve Niles' Remains (2011), a project which only cemented her love for acting even more.
