Hailing from Bray, Ireland, Paul Neary has spent a lifetime as a student and lover of film. Completely self-educated in the field it was a typically bold, and unplanned, decision to move to Canada that provided him the opportunity to finally test himself. In front of and behind the camera he weaved together a patch-work education in film-making, before helping to create and develop the documentary TV series 'Merchants of the Wild'. His films are personal and complex with subjects, like his interests, ranging across a broad spectrum, and often with few answers to probing questions. Nonetheless he keeps asking and keeps exploring, knowing the medium has the power, quality, and scope to allow for excitement and insight alike. Ultimately he wants to entertain. It is not a question of intellectual and boring versus spectacular and soulless for this director. There is only what works, and that is, and always will be, connecting to an audience and bringing them into a new world for a moment of their lives. Creating images and moments that do what they are suppose to; make us laugh, make us cry, or make us think and, always, to share an idea. Paul Neary lives and works in Toronto, Canada in the TV, film, photography and entertainment industries.
