In the younger years Drew has already began exploring the art of film making. His initial projects consisted of documenting the lives of his family, friends, and neighbors on film. Through high school he maintained focus which eventually landed him to enroll in Television Broadcasting program at Fanshawe College. During his college career Drew participated in filming music videos, directing a TV series on Rogers cable channel in London, as well as reported live at various Western University Sporting Events. While at Fanshawe he was able to maximize his skill and abilities which prepared Drew for the next logical move, Vancouver Film School, and a new challenge in form of the Digital Design program. While at Fanshawe, Drew also became quite familiar with the local music scene which is why he was surprised by the lack of attention local artists drew in Vancouver. In Drew's opinion "the problem in Vancouver is that a lot of local artists don't know how to promote themselves and make the public aware of the local talent and establish themselves in bigger venues." From this view came the idea for VanCity Calling, a projected that will serve to bring local Vancouver talent into the spotlight.
