Willie Stewart was born in Gallatin, Tennessee. He is a 2015 BFA candidate of the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art. In 2014, Stewart was a participant at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture where he received an Alex Katz Fellowship. In 2015, he received a Yip Harburg Foundation Award for his contribution to "both progressive and socially conscious work." His work has been exhibited at Kijidome (Boston, MA), Socrates Sculpture Park (New York, NY), Zeitgeist (Nashville, TN), 40AU (Nashville, TN), the Louisville International Film Festival, and the Nashville Film Festival, where he won the Independent Spirit Award for Best Short Film. His work will be included in an upcoming exhibition at the Herron College of Art (Indianapolis, IN) in August 2015. Willie Stewart lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
