Aluísio Leite

Director | Writer
Date of birth : 03/08/1988
City of birth : Registro, Sao Paulo, Brazil

Aluísio Leite was born and raised in a small town in the massive State of São Paulo, Brazil. At the age of 9, he started reading movie reviews and getting seriously interested in Cinema. He would devour film magazines and hang out at the (only) video store in town, talking to the clerks for hours, and renting movies whenever his mother (or any other generous relative) would give him some spare change. There wasn't a single movie theater in his hometown, which meant it was hell on Earth. At 13, he saw Paul Thomas Anderson's "Magnolia" (1999) and that's when he had no doubt he wanted to become a screenwriter/filmmaker. At 18, Aluísio got his green card, dropped out of his senior year in high school, and moved to Burlington, Vermont. There, he could go to the local arthouse theater as often as he wanted, and after getting his GED and enrolling into Burlington College, he further developed his Film education. Two weeks after graduation in 2012, Aluísio drove all the way from Vermont to Hollywood in his ancient Honda Accord. He has since worked as a creative assistant for Academy Award winner Dustin Lance Black ("Milk"), as a script reader and director of acquisitions for Orange Entertainment, in addition to writing, directing and producing two short films ("Bad Poetry, Cheap Beer," 2017; and "Family Portrait," 2021). After almost a decade in Los Angeles, Aluísio moved to Lisbon, Portugal in March 2022, where he currently resides and continues to develop his passion projects.
