Juan Diego Escobar Alzate is a Colombian Writer and Director. He was born on August 15, 1987 in Manizales, Colombia. He has a BA in Audiovisual Communication. In 2015 he moved to San Francisco, California pursuing an MFA in Directing Motion Pictures and Television at Academy of Arts University of San Francisco from which he graduated with Cum Laude honors. He has written and directed several short films, ads and music videos in Colombia and in the United States, having directed video-clips for international re known bands and artists such as Manuel Medrano, Matt Simons and Escape the Fate, among others. In 2019 he completed his debut feature film "Luz: The Flower of Evil", which premiered at Sitges in the Official Fantastic Competition, and which harvested 63 festival selections and collected 23 awards. It was also nominated for best latinamerican fantastic feature film of 2019 by the Meliés Federation and has gotten a broad international distribution, becoming one of the first latinamerican films from AMC's Shudder SVOD platform. His feature film "Searching for the Black Rainbow" is currently in development. Currently he works as acquisition manager for genre driven french SVOD platform Freaks On®.
