While having an auto-body mechanic/ Entrepreneur father and a night club singing mom, Rick Colon was destined to be unique. Besides having unique parents, Rick also had a unique upbringing, growing up in both the cities of Cleveland, Ohio and San Antonio, Texas. As a child, Rick Colon first became interested in art by drawing pictures of his favorite cartoon characters. Despite the lack of a formal visual arts training, young Rick continued to progress until his late teen years teaching himself how to draw, paint, and illustrate using various traditional media. Years later, Rick attended Cuyahoga Community College for graphic design- illustration and to learn today's modern digital media.. Rick soon became interested in computer animation. After acquiring his associates degree, Rick moved to Tampa, Florida to attend the International Academy Of Design & Technology to pursue his bachelor's degree in 3D film animation. Both during and after attending college, Rick developed his animation skills while creating a series of animated cartoon shorts for the web. After moving back to Ohio, Rick Colon caught the "film acting bug" in 2011 after attending a free acting class at The Cleveland Film Academy. As an acting student, Rick received various small roles in local independent film shorts and television shows. Months later, Rick was offered his first live-action /animation job in the film, "Lady Dragon". Rick was given the tasks of turning his acting instructor, Kristina Michelle into a crime-fighting super-hero and creating a fire-breathing dragon for the film. Rick was then given the job of storyboard artist for the film. In 2014, after years of attending numerous film acting auditions, Rick Colon finally received his break-through acting role as a Colombian Drug-lord in the web-series,"The Connected". Unfortunately, the following year both projects went into a very long post-production period. Despite the lack of local acting opportunities, Rick Colon remained a film acting student at the Cleveland Film Academy from 2011 to 2015. During his down time, Rick scored his first Telly award in 2015 for his animation work on the television series, " Horror Hotel". Rick Colon then decided to focus exclusively on writing, animating, and directing 3d cartoon films. Look to see more of his work on the independent film festival circuit in the future.
