Iqbal Mohammed

Biography

Iqbal Mohammed started writing as a release from his stressful day to day life. In February 2011, Iqbal wrote his first feature film script, Deut 31.6, an action thriller which became a finalist in the prestigious Hollywood "PAGE International Screenwriting Competition". In September 2011, Iqbal was offered the role of Executive Producer to the short film, The Pharmacist. Writer, Mike Cassidy labelled the signing of Iqbal as "significant and a huge score" with him being both a screenwriter and a pharmacist. He has since written a number of short films including his directorial debut, Against the Norm, which premiered at Odeon Cinema in Huddersfield on 3 March 2013. His last short Three Minute Warning played in over 30 film festivals worldwide, including Oscar Qualifying film festival; Urbanworld, New York. The film was also selected as part of the BFI Network showcase at the Bolton International Film Festival in 2019 where it was screened with other short films that were BFI funded. Iqbal's latest project is short film; Tasbeeh, which is being part funded by the BFI Network. It is in pre-production and will be one of the first BFI shorts to be shot in the UK post Covid-19. Iqbal enjoys tackling stories that look at societal issues and as a filmmaker he believes it's his job to bring certain issues to people's attention but not to give answers to the audience but rather raise questions that they may not have ever thought of.
