Born in Adelaide, Australia to Australian soccer player Steve and state figure skater and netballer Margaret. Steve found the stage early as part of the combined schools choir in 1976 and '77, playing at Adelaide's Festival Theatre. Concentrating on study he graduated in Science from Adelaide University in 1986 and moved to Canberra to pursue a career in Information Technology. Re-finding his voice later in life he fronted several non-professional and semi-professional rock bands before moving to the stage. He has appeared in a number of amateur productions including Godspell, Jesus Christ Superstar, My Fair Lady and the fully realised theatrical versions of Pink Floyd's The Wall and The War of the Worlds. Steve was given the chance to be the burnt face of the movie "Theatre of the Dead" and has since become involved with the Canberra Feature Film Coalition and its future productions.
