Mac Capen was born in Plymouth, Massachusetts. He moved out to Los Angeles, California when he was two because his father, Donald Capen, got a job working at the Disney Corporation. From there, Mac Capen further honed his creative skill by writing stories, gathering connections, and dabbling in video game design. He moved out to Massachusetts 16 years later to attend Bridgewater State University, where he met up with Rob Morton, Jim Sass, and Michael Shanahan. There he collaborated to create many short films, leading to his international directorial debut: Wishbone.
