Ruby Miller Paiva is a director of photography based in Los Angeles. She was born and raised in Seattle, Washington and holds a BA in Art History and Visual Arts from Occidental College. As a cinematographer she has worked across the US on projects ranging from narrative and documentary to music video and web series. Her work has been featured on Snapchat, MTV and Buzzfeed, and her first feature, "Phantom Mary," premiered at Ciudad del Este Independent Film Festival in Ciudad del Este, Paraguay. She recently served as 2nd-unit DoP on her first feature-length documentary film, which was produced for HBO Max. She believes that authenticity and thoughtfulness are the basis of effective cinematography, and strives to imbue her work with a high level of care for the inner world of the characters and the story. Ruby is the recipient of a 2022-23 ASC Vision Mentorship. She is a member of ICG Local 600 (1st Assistant Camera), Free the Work and Women in Media.
