Vera grew up between St. Petersburg, Russia and Arctic Siberia. While in Russia, she trained in fine art and law, and started climbing mountains at the age of 13, travelling as far as the ancient cities of the Silk Road and the Tian Shan mountains. In her early 20s, Vera and her then husband moved to the UK where they lived in Cambridge and Durham. While in the UK, Vera graduated in computer science. In 2004, Vera moved to Calgary, Canada. She traveled extensively for work and in 2012 visited Colombia a number of times, where she discovered her love for filmmaking and filmed and produced her first travel video. Since then, Vera studied film with Raindance MA in Film, screenwriting with the UCLA Professional programs and trained at Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers, Alberta College of Art and Design and Calgary Actor's Studio. She continues to call Calgary home, where she lives with her partner Ben Stephenson and their Japanese Akitas Miko and Akiko.
