David (John Scott) Ward has been working in the Australian film and theatre industries for over a decade, and his expertise spans multiple disciplines across many mediums, from playwright to director to screenwriter to performer, designer, photographer and beyond. Spending a great many years as an actor before making the transition into writer director at age eighteen, David became an Artist in Residence at Courthouse Arts in 2008 at the age of sixteen. During his time with the organisation time, he won the award for Best Actor at Short & Sweet Melbourne in 2008 - and was nominated for Best Play and Best Director - for his one man adaptation of 'Jekyll & Hyde', he originated the role of The Master in 'Master & Servant' (2010) and wrote, directed and performed in the world premiere of 'Sand' (2010), which was staged at the historic Woodbin Theatre to sell-out crowds and unanimous critical acclaim. Ward graduated from Swinburne University's Film & Television degree in 2013, and during this time he wrote, directed, produced and provided assistance to numerous short film productions, music videos and documentaries. His body horror short 'Womb' (2013) has been seen around the world as part of Los Angeles Fear & Fantasy Film Festival, Pollygrind Las Vegas, Melbourne Underground Film Festival, A Night of Horror International Film Festival in Sydney and Monsterfest in Melbourne, as well as winning the ATOM Award for 'Best Experimental Film' in 2013. In 2014, he won the award for Best Director at the Oregon International Film Festival for his film 'Dorothy', and again won the award for Best Experimental Film at the ATOM Awards in 2014. Dividing his time between theatre & film productions, Ward also directed and designed Not The Worst Productions' debut season of Neil LaBute's 'The Shape of Things' (2014), and also directed and co-choreographed the Australian premiere of 'High Fidelity' at Chapel off Chapel with Pursued by Bear (also 2014).
