Mao Yanagawa was born and raised in Shonan, Kanagawa, Japan. She graduated from University of Central Oklahoma with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Theatre Performance. During her time studying at UCO, she appeared in University Productions and local theaters, including Reduxion Theatre Company. Her favorite credits includes Metamorphoses, Tea, Shoulders, Romeo and Juliet, and Antigone. In 2010, she became a practitioner of Lessac Voice and Movement Method, then, began to work for University of Central Oklahoma as an assistant and taught Voice and Movement and Acting. She directed on the second stages in University and worked for local theaters in Oklahoma as a professional actress. Her favorite credits includes Macbeth and 70 scenes of Halloween. After moving to Los Angeles in the summer of 2011, Mao received her Masters of Fine Arts in Acting for Film at the New York Film Academy, Universal Studios campus.
