Veracity Butcher is an American actor and performance artist born, raised, and based in downtown New York City. Most of Veracity's experience resonates from an Off-Broadway upbringing: she has performed at The Public, St. Ann's Warehouse, Atlantic Theater, The Flea, NYU Skirball Center, Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, Abingdon Theater, INTAR, The Gene Frankel Theater, Dixon Place, 45 Bleecker, University Settlement, and La Mama. Veracity started performing as a child. Her first role was in The Object of My Affection playing a young chorus singer. Her first stage work was as a teenager in East Village community theatre. Growing up, Veracity trained in Opera (Mezzo-Soprano), Modern Dance and Advanced Tap. She graduated from Middlebury College with high honors in Theatre and Arabic. Since then, she has participated in over 75 developmental play workshops and readings. She has studied techniques including Alexander, Linklater, Laban, and Meisner. Veracity's Moroccan and Cajun ancestry, along with her youth in the metropolis, led her to gravitate towards art infused with the taboo. In her creative work, Veracity aims to toe anthropological and socio-political lines. Though primarily an actor, Veracity appreciates aesthetics and multi-media expressions thereof. She writes poetry, prose, lyrics, music, plays, and screenplays. She is a member of Oscar-nominated José Rivera's writing circle, as well as Apartment 929, Clark Middleton's film acting group, both based in the historical home of Rip Torn and Geraldine Page. She is a former resident actor at The Flea Theater, or "Bat." She has posed for acclaimed oil painters Douglas Bourgeois and Jan Frank, and been featured in music videos for Widowspeak and D.R.A.M. Veracity has performed as lead singer for her band, VIOLETS, at venues across Manhattan and Brooklyn. VIOLETS' first music video HONOR KILLING garnered 38,000+ organic views, primarily from the Middle East. Veracity is pre-cast in Kingdom of Spirits, a Moroccan feature film written and directed by Aisha Jabour, and she is in pre-production for VIOLETS' third music video, MOROCCAN ROLL. Recent television and film credits include Law & Order: SVU (Season 21, Episode 11), directed by Mariska Hargitay; The Downpour, a short film written and directed by Jade Courtney Edwards; What Came After, a short film directed by Three-Time Tony award winner Tonya Pinkins, and written by Christopher Oscar Peña (Jane The Virgin, Insecure); Docket 32357, a webseries directed by Two-Time Emmy award winner Randy Wilkins, and created by longtime collaborator Eljon Wardally; Alternatino (Comedy Central) a pilot created by Arturo Castro (Broad City, Narcos); and Marjoun and The Flying Headscarf, which was showcased in Cannes by the Dubai Film Market, supported by the Princess Grace Foundation, and screened in over 20 American cities. Marjoun and The Flying Headscarf premiered and was nominated for Best Film at Miami Film Festival in 2019. It is Veracity's first leading role in a feature film.
