Evarts was born and raised in Durham, North Carolina, the only child of Betsy, a modern dancer, watercolorist, and performer on children's television show Frog Hollow, and Dale, an international environmentalist. She attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) on a full scholarship and received a Bachelor's Degree with Highest Distinction in Dramatic Art and in International Politics. While at UNC, Ali co-wrote "Priceless Gem," a documentary theatre piece about the athlete experience in the wake of scandal. She also studied acting and dance in Cape Town, South Africa and mask and movement at Dell'Arte International in Blue Lake, California. An actor both in film and on stage, Ali plays strong, put together, successful young women who seem to have it all, but who sometimes struggle with deep vulnerability behind closed doors.
