John Matthews

Born in Georgia, USA and emigrated to Japan in 2008, John is a Japanese-English bilingual and works as a hybrid audiovisual journalist and on-screen talent, producing and reporting stories for primarily Western news outlets such as CNBC, NPR, Reuters, and CBS, as well as appearing in documentary projects primarily based in Japan. John's career began on the microphone in 2011, when he was recruited by NPR as an interpreter traveling to the stricken Tohoku region of Japan after the earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear disaster of March 11th. Since then, he has expanded his work into audio writing and reporting for radio, videography and on-camera reporting, and stills photography.
