Roy grew up in rural New South Wales, Sydney. His mother, Epifania Sherfan was a medical doctor and his father, Andrew Sherfan, was an author and teacher. During his early childhood, Roy's father saw that he had a natural talent for piano and sent him for piano lessons regularly. Roy began a music career in the late 90s as a music producer, helping several local groups in the Sydney area gain prominence. Graduating from Macquarie University in 2000 in Computer Science, Roy began a career as a web developer and built up a client base of freelance customers. Roy started his career in film when an opportunity arose in 2012 when one of his existing web clients asked him to film their fashion shoot. The presented work was passed around social networks like Facebook with some of the footage eventually shown at European Fashion Week. This initial work caught the eye of Director Stanley Joseph from World Pictures Australia who approached Roy to shoot several short films. One short film "It's Always A Beautiful Day", a condensed short film of The Samaritans (2012) ended up winning the major prize at the Nova "Focus on Ability" 2013 Short Film Festival. Roy was also involved with two of Stanley's major theatrical films My Cornerstone (2013) as Editor and 2nd Unit Cinematographer and Love You Krishna (2019) as part of the editorial department. In 2014, Roy was given his first opportunity to shoot as the DP of the action film Headshot, Directed by Stanley Joseph and shot in Los Angeles. While working in LA, Roy also shot several episodes for the comedy group Blue Match Productions. Since then, Roy has been involved in many more short films, music videos and TV commercials / pilots both in Australia and the United States. Roy also made his first directional debut shooting artist Ray Isaac's Hiding (2015) music video. In 2016, Roy traveled back to Los Angeles again to shoot several short films and a TV pilot for Loveman Media including the TV-pilot Reclamation (2017) written by Thomas Loveman along with Synesthesia (2016) directed by Alison Kohlhardt . In 2017, Roy teamed up with producer Ciaran Jordan via Can't Be Stopped Productions - the first collaboration being the short film Here (2017) which went on to win the Best Screenwriting Award at the Lakeview International Film Festival. Since then, Roy has been involved as a Film Director in over 50 productions with Can't Be Stopped Productions creating corporate videos for heavy industry, manufacturing, restaurant and food showcases, a reality TV pilot, music videos and documentary style formats.
