Ian Ebright is the writer/director of the award-winning narrative short films 'The Devil Needs a Fix' and 'From the Sky.' 'The Devil Needs a Fix' had its World Premiere at the 2017 Seattle International Film Festival. Called "smart and elegant" by renowned filmmaking website Cinephilia & Beyond and "deliciously intriguing...a sophisticated dark comedy with an edge" by Thomas Ethan Harris (American Cinematheque), 'The Devil Needs a Fix' won four awards and played prominent festivals including Oscar qualifiers Rhode Island International Film Festival 2017 and HollyShorts Film Festival 2017. 'The Devil Needs a Fix' was named one of Film Shortage's favorite sci-fi/fantasy short films of 2018, which called it "a wonderfully scripted film with a rather brilliant turn of events." 'The Devil Needs a Fix' featured a soundtrack by Helsinki folktronica band Husky Rescue (SXSW, Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits). Ian's debut was the multi-award-winning narrative short film 'From the Sky' (2014), an Arabic-language story about a peaceful father and troubled son struggling to cope with the effects of drone warfare in their region of the Middle East. Called "brilliant...an amazing and pioneering short film" by Cinephilia & Beyond, 'From the Sky' received 13 awards including the International Humanitarian Award grand prize at the Oscar-qualifying 2014 Rhode Island International Film Festival and the Best Short Film grand prize at the 2019 Damah Film Festival in Tokyo-where it was selected by a panel of Oscar- and award-winning producers including Gerald R. Molen (Schindler's List, Jurassic Park), Gray Frederickson (The Godfather: Part II, Apocalypse Now), and Howard Kazanjian (Raiders of the Lost Ark, Return of the Jedi). 'From the Sky' also received seven nominations including an Excellence in Short Film Casting nod from the CSA Artios Awards and more than 25 official selections from festivals including Oscar qualifier Seattle International Film Festival and Savannah Film Festival. 'From the Sky' had its television debut on PBS' Seattle affiliate KCTS 9 and was featured in MovieMaker Magazine. The film starred Maz Siam (Argo, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., The Mindy Project) and featured an original soundtrack by Vancouver ambient/electronic artist loscil (Mutek, Decibel, Big Ears).
