Born Sophie Celine Anthamatten on 26 July 1991 in Saas-Grund, Switzerland, she is a professional ice hockey goaltender. Her career started in 2008, when Anthamatten represented her country at junior level, playing for the Switzerland women's national under-18 ice hockey team. That very same year she played in five games, winning two, with goals against average of 4.81. During the following year, 2009, Anthamatten played in five games, winning one and posting a GAA of 5.59. Sophie was selected for the Switzerland national women's ice hockey team in the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. Unfortunately she did not play during the tournament. Anthamatten represented Switzerland at three IIHF Women's World Championships. Her first appearance was in 2011 IIHF Women's World Championship. Sophie allowed six goals in 25 minutes of playing time. Her best performance occurred in 2012, when she played in 2 games, with a GAA of 3.38. Anthamatten served as the backup in the medal round of the 2012 tournament, winning a bronze medal behind Florence Schelling. The next year 2013 she appeared at the 2013 IIHF Women's World Championship. But the real success happened during the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Anthamatten played proudly for her country against the Swedish team in the bronze medal playoffs. Sophie Anthamatten won the bronze Olympic medal.
