Paul Russell

Paul is a British Director/Cinematographer who made South East Asia his home in 1995. He picked up his first camera in the late 1970's and has been shooting ever since. He is a well-travelled, pragmatic perfectionist. Over the years since 1995 he has been involved in many video productions, including TV commercials, pop music videos for national superstars, corporate videos, documentaries, government initiatives and campaigns, and acclaimed short films. Before that he was in IT sales in the UK. Paul has for the last few years been cutting his teeth as a Director on music videos and short films. His 2017 short, The Returning, and 2018 comedy, Cats! have won multiple international awards in a variety of categories. His 2019 short, Beyond Staffing, a dark Pythonesque/Vonnegut satire, is now picking up awards as it continues its run around the international festival circuit. "I apply a very musical approach to the storytelling of my films," he says, "I like to find the rhythms, the solid chord structure and the soaring melodies in every story." He is also currently developing his first feature film, which will be a horror anthology based on the best selling books by best selling Malaysian author Tunku Halim. He is also developing other features with several other writers in the USA and Australia. An accomplished musician and composer, Paul has released or co-released several albums and is a member of the Composers and Authors Society of Singapore. His favourite movie quote is "You mustn't be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling."
