Attended Bakersfield (Calif.) Christian High School. Was rated as the 12th-best quarterback in the nation. Named the Private School National Player of the Year. Played two seasons of high school football in the Houston area before moving back to his hometown of Bakersfield, Calif., the summer before his senior year. Guided his team to a 12-1 record and threw for 4,067 yards and 46 TDs as a senior, leading the team to the Division V Central Section title. Ranked third in California and 11th in the nation for high school quarterbacks in passing yards. Both brothers, Darren and David, played Division I football. David was a quarterback at Fresno State, the 2001 Johnny Unitas Award winner and the No. 1 overall NFL pick in 2002 by the Houston Texans and played in the NFL for 11 seasons. David is now an NFL Network analyst. Darren was a defensive lineman at Houston.
