Bru was raised in Washington, D.C. His childhood mainly involved track & field, instruments (including violin for the DC Youth Orchestra) and Saturday enrichment programs, mainly at the University of the District of Columbia. Immediately after graduating elementary school, he relocated to Delta State, Nigeria for school. He later returned to the U.S. and enrolled in the Friendship Collegiate School. Bru soon needed to complete community service hours for disciplinary action and was ultimately cast in his first play, "The Dreaming Tree." After graduating from the nation's first degree-granting, H.B.C.U, Lincoln University, he attended the National Conservatory of Dramatic Arts in Washington DC and left early to take on his first acting job, a teaching-artist with an emphasis on Shakespeare.
