Carl Christian Lein Størmer

Carl Christian Lein Størmer (born 1982) has more than 10 years of experience in film and 20 years of experience in music as a recording artist and producer. As a touring musician, travelling the world with hardcore punk bands (Turdus Musicus, DIE A LEGEND, Kamikaze a Go Go, NORD MOT NORD), documentation became a natural "byproduct" (or necessity) of the relentless DIY journeying. Initially the expressive need manifested as storytelling through black/white still photography, which gradually evolved into moving images. Via countless music videos and short and eventually feature length documentaries, he came to realize that filmmaking was his ultimate craft, one that would encapsulate all of his story telling yearnings, blending sound, moving imagery and dramatic arcs bending. He his an avid fan of "found footage"-documentaries, and has a preference for gritty visuals, as manifested in frequent and passionate usage of either 8mm film or VHS-cameras in his work. He has directed several award winning documentaries and short films, as well as more than 70 music videos, snowboard- and skateboard films, concert films and commercials, more than often serving as DOP, main editor, colorist and composer on his own directorial projects. As a recording artist he has composed and performed (as singer, guitar player, bassist, drummer, percussionist and even flutist) on more than twenty musical albums and produced/recorded more than 10 records (as CRTCL) and composed scores for both short and feature length documentaries. Altho semi-dogmatically rooted in DIY ethics, he has been awarded (and accepted..) multiple scholarships in film and music, including receiving the Norwegian Arts Council's 'Kunstnerstipend' for The Art of Film in 2020. In 2019 he received the Snowboard Federations Honorary Award for his work on 'There's Always Next Season' and '1997 FOREVER'. In 2020 he represented Norway at the honorary IDFA Academy in Amsterdam. In unrelated news, he also holds a PhD degree in medicine.
