Douglas Shaw Duvall was born April 10, 1982. Duvall grew up in Blue Ridge, Georgia. After graduating high school in 2000, Duvall joined the United States Army where he trained to be a Military Police Officer. Duvall was stationed at Fort Leanordwood Missouri initially for his basic training and job training. Once training was complete, Duvall was assigned to Fort Lewis, Washington as his permanent duty station. Douglas Duvall was in the active army from 2000 through 2007, in that time he was deployed to Kosovo in 2002 and Baghdad, Iraq in 2005. While in Iraq, Duvall was injured by an improvised explosive device when the bomb detonated beside his vehicle. The blast killed his driver, PFC Sam Huff, and severely injured him. Duvall recovered from his injuries in Baghdad, on Forward Operating Base Falcon and continued with the deployment until his unit, the 170th Military Police Company came back to the United States in January 2006. Duvall was awarded the Purple Heart along with many other medals and awards in his military service. Once back in the United States, Duvall separated from the Army and moved to Florida. Duvall became employed by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, in Tampa Florida in November 2007. In 2013, Duvall was dispatched to a call that would add to the horrific experiences he had witnessed while in the Military. Douglas Duvall responded to a 911 call to a residence at 240 Faithway Drive, Seffner, FL. and witnessed an active sinkhole in the bedroom of the victim, Jeffery Bush. His brother, Jeremy Bush was in the hole trying to help his brother who fell into the ground as the sinkhole opened. Duvall rescued Jeremy from the sinkhole at the last moment before the hole opened and fell through. Duvall was awarded the Medal of Heroism from Florida Governor Rick Scott and the Medal of Valor from the Florida Sheriff's Association. Duvall received many additional awards for his service and heroism on that day. Duvall was featured in The Weather Channels Secrets of the Earth S2,E4 and other international programs.
